Nanobody Knitting

Pink nanobody protein structures on a pale blue ground, with a pink knitted-pattern protein image at the centre

Nanobody Knitting (2024 - 2025)

Collaboration project by Risa Ueno(Knitter) x Gemma Gordon(in the Oxford Protein Informatics Group, based at the Department of Statistics)

Intertwining nanobodies and knitting, combining the ideas Gemma and Risa each explore in their own work in science and art. What happens when they meet? How does the perception of form, pattern or structure differ between a knitter and a scientist, and what happens when we bring these together? Our journey exploring these ideas together has led to a series of playful experiments using textiles to communicate the form and function of protein structures.
